Are you feeling listless, worn out, foggy brain, unbalanced and extremely tired? You’re not alone, welcome to a life plagued with fatigue. Another harsh effect of having Rheumatoid Arthritis but something many just don’t seem to realize come along with this disease! Fatigue for us is more than a yawn and a nap!
Are you tired to the point that you can barely raise your head. Is your body telling you “I cannot do this now” and is your mind just too tired to even think of ways to encourage you to attempt to make a move. This is what our enemy fatigue does to us and it is awful because we are so weak we just can’t fight back. It drains us and robs us of our will to do anything even something sometimes as simple as raising our head. Dealing with fatigue maybe overlooked as one of the most powerful effects of having Rheumatoid Arthritis mainly because many don’t see how much we suffer from it. For a lot of sufferers it’s as chronic as this disease and just as debilitating. It leaves you absolutely powerless to fight for yourself against it and this disease. As your days turn into nights you may find you have barely moved from one place to the next and it lets you know just how much of your life it has taken away from you right along with it’s partner “pain”.
Fatigue is a feeling of depletion and one that is so overwhelming we can barely move an inch of our bodies as our strength slowly seeps from us taking away our ability to do anything in our daily lives. Our bodies are just broken down from the trauma brought on by Rheumatoid Arthritis and its medication leaving us feeling like life has been pulled right out of us. How can we end the battle with fatigue and is there a remedy for it? Those of us who are truly broken from it would be more than happy to know if there was something that could help us through it or cure it. Our lives with Rheumatoid Arthritis bring many changes but without the strength to fight, it makes our struggle that much more harder. It is without a doubt fatigue and pain are leading rulers of this disease.
It is important that you know: When we are sitting down and don’t get up to greet you, we aren’t being impolite, when we are curled up in bed for days at a time, it is because we are in pain and beyond exhausted, when we sit in one place for hours, it is because we don’t have the strength to get up and move, when it seems we can barely understand what you’re saying, know that our minds are totally worn out AND all of these things because fatigue has taken over our bodies and minds. It has turned us into someone who isn’t anything but an exhausted part of the person we use to be.
No one can imagine a life interrupted by a disease like Rheumatoid Arthritis let alone something that drains every ounce of energy that you have leaving you with nothing of yourself to give. This is what happens when you are the person that has this disease. Tired as we maybe, sleep does not come easy even though the exhausting fatigue has its own life in us. It is a serious enemy that hangs onto us weighing us down as we are trying to fight against this disease. It is wrecking us physically and mentally leaving us in an exhausted heap while taking its toll making us feel weak and empty. In the end we are left with a mind that is tired and a body that is even worse.
Fatigue, a daily reminder that is a part of our lives and our journey with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Be Blessed.

Thank you for the explanation. Nobody understands my fatigue…I know it is part of the disease, but it’s a lesser known symptom. You nailed it! 👍

I suffered fatigue just like that until my rheumatologist put me on Humira (anti TNF) and it was like MAGIC . Within a week I could walk again (OK, slowly) and I have to inject it each fortnight and still take a smaller dose of methotrexate. I have been on it for 10 years now and apart from having to stop it before and after each operation, I have had no problems at all!
